Salford Business Awards 2010 – Winners

The third annual Salford Business Awards Ceremony, sponsored by TalkTalk Technology, took place at the Lowry Hotel last night.  As in previous years, there were eight categories of awards in total with a winner and a runner-up in each category.  TalkTalk Technology sponsored the prestigious Business of the Year Award which was won by Freemont, who also went home with two other awards as runners-up in both the Excellence and Entrepreneur categories.   ENER-G were winners of the International Trade Award, sponsored by Salford City Council, and also finished as runners-up in the Business of the Year Award which they won last year.

Dean Group won the Technology Award sponsored by Trinity Business Training whilst the Innovation Award, sponsored by University of Salford, was collected by Lanstar.  Carbon Creative, a carbon neutral graphic design studio, won the Green Award sponsored by the Environment Agency.

Louise Duerr of Baby Deli was the winner of the MIDAS sponsored Entrepreneur Award and Fledglings Education and Childcare were winners of the Excellence Award sponsored by Bovis Lend Lease.  Helping Hands, a not for profit community business providing a handypersons service to Salford residents, were winners of the Community Award sponsored by Central Salford URC.

More than 250 people attended the ceremony and amongst the local businesses and sponsors was Ken Lee, head of HR for BBC North, who spoke about the opportunities created by MediaCityUK and the recruitment opportunities the development represents for local residents.

Martin Hall, Vice-chancellor of the University of Salford, said “The University is proud to be a part of these Awards, recognising the success and achievements of local businesses.  The standard of entries has improved year on year and we have many good ambassadors for the City of Salford.  Some of the businesses recognised here tonight are amongst the finest in the country and continue the City’s long tradition of innovation and success.”

Chapel Street Business Group Chairman Paul Wainwright said:  “We have been delighted with the extremely high standard of entries received this year and they once again reflect the diverse nature of Salford’s thriving local business community.  Choosing each winner has been very difficult and it has been a real privilege to see so many innovative businesses ready to take advantage of changing economic fortunes.  We look forward to watching their progress over the course of the next twelve months.”

Barbara Spicer, Chief Executive of Salford City Council said: ‘Salford has a fantastic range of diverse businesses of which the City can be very proud. Showcasing their achievements through these awards demonstrates their vital contribution to the City’s economy and I congratulate all the entrants and winners.’
