IMG_0038The winners of the 2013 Salford Business Awards sponsored by TalkTalk Technology were announced during last night’s ceremony at Salford City Stadium, with Kingsland Wines & Spirits being crowned large business of the year and HVPD named small business of the year.

Kingsland, who also scooped the Green Award, are the UK’s premier independent supplier of wine and spirits. They employ a largely local workforce and have seen sales surge after heavy investment in their 18 acre site at Irlam.

HVPD beat off stiff competition to bag three awards – in the small business of the year, international trade and innovation categories.

The prestigious event was attended by 350 guests who enjoyed an after-dinner speech from BBC Breakfast business correspondent Steph McGovern.

BAFTA award-winning journalist and TV reporter Elaine Willcox hosted the Salford spectacular.

Treble winners HVPD are experts in the growing industry of partial discharge testing and monitoring, with over 300 customers in 90 countries.

Yippee Entertainment also took home two prizes as they won both the Entrepreneur Award and Rising Star Award, Aequitas Legal scooped the Excellence Award.

JMC IT were named Best Employer for the second year in a row, and Salford City Reds Foundation won the Community Award.

Salford City Mayor, Ian Stewart, said: “Salford’s businesses are some of the most innovative and successful in Britain. It is fantastic to have the opportunity to celebrate their achievements.’

University of Salford Vice-Chancellor, Professor Martin Hall, said: “Strong, vibrant business development is key to Salford’s future. The University of Salford is committed to working with businesses in driving forward innovation and finding new ways to work together.’

Paul Wainwright, chair of The Business Group, said: “We are extremely proud of all our finalists and their vital contribution to the local economy. It is encouraging to see so many new entrants this year – suggesting that Salford continues to be regarded as an attractive place to do business. We have no doubt, given the calibre of applications we have received for this year’s awards, that the future of business in Salford is bright.
